I've just gotta get this out of me. Why doesn't Susan Komen start adopting other wonderful causes? The Susan G. Komen foundation has seen one of the most successful (if not the most successful) campaigns in raising both money and awareness in history. Pink clothing, pens, hats, even the lights on Philly's buildings work for the cause of breast cancer research. Tonight, someone sent me a forward about buying pink M&Ms. (If you were the forwarder, know that I'm not upset...it just brought up a latent sentiment.) I thought, for the love of God, even our candy has a cause. Now, I must back up and say that I am ever grateful to the research and technology that allowed my mother, two aunts and a grandmother to survive breast cancer. However, with the wildly successful marketing and partnerships of Susan G. Komen, I wonder what other causes could be helped as well!?!
Thanks to Colleen and our conversation several years ago in a red Lumina on St. Asaph's Rd. for sparking this in me.

I have to agree with you Hyla. I think it is awesome the recognition that the Susan G. Komen foundation has done. But there are some other serious cancers affecting women out there that seem to be forgotten.
No one seems to remember that the number one killer of women is heart disease AND the number one cancer killer of women is lung cancer. There is only about a 15% or so survival rate for women with lung cancer vs. the high survival rate for women with breast cancer. Of course we all want 100% survival for all cancers.
This is a grumble for me...not because I don't think what they are doing is good and worthwhile and I have to say that I've only known one person with breast cancer, but there are lots of other areas that are in desperate need of help too. Thanks for posting this. Glad to hear about the survivors that you know!
I agree....I do appreciate all that this organization has done...but I had to tighten my purse for them last year when I learned that they partner with Planned Parenthood.... More people need to be aware of this fact
